At PFR, one of our favorite high-impact frameworks is navigating the College Decision.

It’s easily one of the most complex choices a teenager will ever make. We call it the “Time Travel” dilemma:

A 17-year-old high school student has to mentally teleport 10 years into the future to understand how today's choice impacts their future self. They must make an adult choice, even though they are only beginning their journey! It’s a tough decision for adults, let alone a teenager without guidance.

It is helpful for the student to be accompanied by a "been there, done that" time-traveling partner. That’s why we start every conversation with parents and trusted adult advisors using a 10-step assessment survey. It uncovers the hidden attitudes, experiences, and potential biases adults bring to the table. People come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including:

  • First-Gen vs. Legacy Gen

  • Public vs. Private Universities

  • Selective vs. Open Enrollment

  • Wealthy vs. Modest Income Perspectives

There are no wrong answers, but the diversity in perspectives is extraordinary.

Whether you're a private college counselor, a high school program advisor, or a DIY parent seeking structured clarity, our curriculum and technology (featuring the College Xoice App) are built to help families navigate this journey together.
